In today’s generation of business, more often than not we see business professionals walking around with backpacks on their way to meetings or conferences. Why is that? I thought backpacks were for students or the occasional crazy professor. Now, it seems that backpacks in the work environment are not only commonplace, but the norm. The massive earthquake that struck Chile last week might have shifted the Earth’s axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say.

The change is negligible, but permanent: Each day should be 1.26 microseconds shorter, according to preliminary calculations. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.

It doesn’t matter if you go running every morning, or you’re a regular at the gym. If you spend most of the rest of the day sitting – in your car, your office chair, on your sofa at home – you are putting yourself at increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, a variety of cancers and an early death. In other words, irrespective of whether you exercise vigorously, sitting for long periods is bad for you.
